Mom of the Month
June 2009

Hello...
My name is Miriam, owner and designer of
BowtiqueUnique.com
What do you sell?
I offer my customers boutique style original handcrafted
accessories from head to toe for girls of all ages. We
love to outfit babies, tween, teens and even mommies for
every occasion. Among our handcrafted accessories you
will find baby hair clippies, hair bows, embellished
with crystals, a complete line of hand frayed denim hair
accessories, one of a kind bow holders and our custom
made designer flip flops and so much more.

Why did you decide to start a home business?
When my oldest daughter was born I looked for hair
accessories to compliment her clothing for all
occasions. Like any proud mom who wants her little
sunshine to look her best, I found myself looking for
one of a kind pieces; everything started looking the
same and I was unsuccessful in my search! As my daughter
approached the age of 4, I found myself just getting by
and I still wanted my sunshine to look her best.
How did you get started?
In summer of 2004, during one of my flower arrangement
shopping sprees, I thought!!! Why not take the beautiful
artificial flowers I was working with and design a line
of hair accessories just for her! Everywhere we went
people admired my daughter’s hair clips, wanting to know
where they can buy one. I took my creations to a few of
the children stores in the valley and this is how Made
by Miriam Silk Flower Arrangements, took a whole new
direction and an inspiring vision.
How do you promote your business?
I
am a real people person. I love the one on one, face to
face and personal contact.
I promote my business to boutiques and store owners and
have some great wholesale accounts all over the country.
I also keep my name out there by doing a couple of shows
annually, here in the valley. My website has been a
great asset to my business, it has opened up a whole new
cliental nationwide. I have satisfied customers who not
only return, but also refer new customers, family and
friends to
Bowtique Unique®.
What challenges do you have in working for home?
I wouldn’t call it challenge(s), but opportunities. My
family is first and most important. As a WAHM there are
a lot of interruptions that go along without saying, but
at the same time I have learned to be organized, clear
with my time to work around those interruptions. I try
hard not to over commit myself and always remember to be
true to myself and the important things!
Where and how do you network with other moms?
Everywhere….. from my MOPS group, to school, friends,
the doctors office, at the playground or children’s
story time at the library…. Basically, the sky is the
limit. I love meeting and talking to people, for
instance, I stopped at a yard-sale just the other day
and left my business card with the lady to call me with
her final price on an item, when she called me, she let
me know that she had visited my website and would love
to order a pair of flip flops and bows for her
daughter…..
I am also a member of a local momprenuer/support group
called Swanky Moms Across Az, our members are great
asset and support to one another; to have a great
support group is essential when one is a WAHM.

Can you share your tips for survival and success?
NEVER GIVE UP! NEVER GIVE UP! NEVER GIVE UP!
If you believe in your work and enjoy it, keep on going
even when tuff times come along. Surround yourself with
successful people who have clear direction, mostly
remember to always look at the bright side.

What is the best advice you could offer to someone just
getting started?
Starting a new business is like having a new family
member, nurture it and work at it. Remember to surround
yourself with knowledgeable, inspiring people who love
to support and help others. Give it your best and most
of all enjoy it!
What inspires you?
I love beautiful things; I enjoy looking at them and
mostly creating them…..
